Plays written by Ayesha Charles
Prior to completing my MA I read a BA Honors Degree in English Literature and Creative Writing at Greenwich University. Here I studied Writing for the Stage, Writing for Performance and 2oth Century Theatre. I discovered my love for dialogue and a talent for Playwrighting. The first play I wrote for university was titled TAO. After writing this play my tutor advised me to start submitting my work to off-west end theatres such as The Royal Court and Soho Theatre, and I have been doing so intermittently since 2007. I am a particular fan of In-Yer-Face theatre. My writing has been inspired by a number of great British playwrights, including Patrick Marber’s Closer, Sarah Kane’s Blasted, Martin Crimp‘s Attempts on Her Life, Daniel McDonagh’s Beauty Queen of Leenane and a number of plays written by Roy Williams.
