Alber Elbaz for Lanvin Quotes

Inspired by: Alber's Philosophy at Vogue Online  I have always adored the work that Alber Elbaz has done for Lanvin, in fact, just as much as I adore listening to him speak at fashion shows or reading his interviews in the magazines. I delight in Alber's humour and lightheartedness just as much as I covet a Lanvin asymmetric black dress worn with long black leather gloves, or those wonderful court shoes with the contrasting ankle strap and, those to die for statement necklaces that have the ability to make the simplest of ensembles dazzle. Unfortunately, I don't possess the pecuniary strength to adorn myself head to toe in Lanvin, but I can afford to bank the quotes of the charming Alber Elbaz. "I don't understand this marathon of fashion," he said. "Today, designers are expected to produce work that is bigger, better, faster and - these days - cheaper. A singer can quit once he or she has made ten great songs,...

Chanel – La Femme de Chanel, Elle Va Être

She was addicted to newness, to novelty and change and succumbed monthly to excess material gain. She hadn’t quite made it to the wonderland of Chanel, so psychologically she imitated a lifestyle sewn so well. At the top of the ladder that equated her success, she would intend only to be or at least dress as the best. Fashion and its folly were her greatest tools that aided her in the trickery of fools. The world understood the tacit language of mode and style, but this never stopped her tools from catapulting her miles. For Chanel she was undoubtedly a devotee and hoped that someday the Chanel woman she would be. Not because she loved the clothes, the cut or the materials, but in Chanel she could no longer be considered an inferior. For this she’d give up trends and impulsive spends, for being perceived without Chanel, after doing so swell, she’d imagine - would be - like living in hell. A Fashion...

Perfume Adverts 2010 – The Pungent Smell of too much Perfume

How do you sell a smell? It is a shame for me to admit that in the times of financial hardship the first charm I will compromise is perfume. I came into the wonderful world of scent particularly late in life. When my friend used to display her empty perfume bottles on a glass shelf as though they were trophies and always ask for a new perfume for Christmas and birthdays I was far more concerned with shoes and jewellery.  This never meant however that I would go about town smelling of soap - in fact quite the contrary - I smelt like a woman of great taste and elegance. I  was lucky enough to have my mother who owns or has once owned all the perfumes a connoisseur of smell should own, Elizabeth Arden Red Door, Yves Saint Laurent Opium, Christian Dior Poison, Chanel No 5, Chanel Allure and her now signature smell Bulgari Amethyste - her perfume collection inevitably became my perfume collection. I have never been...

The past few months have seen my creative juices at a loss - this could be due to intense job hunting and immense career worries, however, crisis, I can happily say 'averted!' The charms of this dandizette are back and looking ten times better - I hope you'd agree. And how convenient it is that I am back in time for christmas, to help you all build your christmas lists, plan your sales shopping and yes, it is indeed that time to start prepping the spring/summer wardrobe and say goodbye to Karl's great icicle that graced the Chanel runway for the winter show. Before we welcome in the new fashion season I will take a nostalgic look back at the key trends and collections of the winter season - all of which should provide inspiration for dressing sizzilingly hot in this freezing cold for the sparkly christmas season.
